Bill Brovold review of Kimmerjae’s album “Air Kisses”
“Kimmerjae Macarus has released a new album called “Air Kisses.” This is what we need. New music that is beautiful, unique, and yet there are moments when you hear musical and poetic history in it. The variety of instruments from the amazing acoustic guitar fitting in perfectly with Kimmer’s beautiful alto voice and the electric guitar work of Khabu Doug Young, bass of Kent McLagan, plus the breath-driven instruments of Dexter Payne, and more. Every song has a feeling like it was written and performed by folks who really paid attention to what was going on around them. It brings to mind some of the best British folk rock (think Pentangle and Fairport Convention) and is still very American and yet doesn’t sound like anyone I could think of, except Kimmer. Every song takes me somewhere new. Little musical vacations. They all remind me of someone I have known or still know. Still, this is a completely unique group of songs with masterful instrumentation, but never overbearing, beautiful singing, combined with the songwriting of someone who has lived and is still living an amazing life, and paying attention to it.”
“She’s like a river. She’s complex, but friendly, and happy. There’s a message there. It’s from her authentic life. If you listen carefully you’ll get it in your body... It stretches you, it brings you alive. ”
